The JUMP (Junior University Multidisciplinary Program) is a 3-day residential program for grades 5, 6, 7, and 8 students during the months of May and June at Wilfrid Laurier University. JUMP is hands-on, educational, informative, and fun!
How did JUMP get started?
JUMP started in 1994 with 6 schools. Since then, JUMP has expanded to host more that 50 different schools and over 2000 students last year. Schools come from all over the province traveling from Wallaceburg, Huntsville, Cambridge, and Chatham just to name a few.
How were the courses developed?
JUMP courses were developed with the Waterloo County Board of Education and the course content is developed by Laurier professors. Courses are taught by Laurier professors, graduate students, and senior students. JUMP prides itself in the choice of courses offered to classes, and the quality and uniqueness of each course.
What are the Benefits of JUMP?
JUMP provides exposure to courses not necessarily offered at the elementary school level and gives teachers and students the opportunity to experience an alternative educational setting. Students learn in a fun and positive atmosphere, encouraging them to pursue higher education, and teachers gain a new perspective by watching their students participate in JUMP’s unique learning environment. JUMP exposes students to many facets of university life and encourages students to pursuer higher education.
